Activities & Clubs
Middle School Activity Nights
We concluded our school year with a successful activity night on May 28th hosted by the middle school advisory council. The custodians commented that we had more people than the high school dances held in the library and our cleanliness was superior to the high school.
Vergennes After School (VAS)
VAS will continue with activities in the fall. Look for information coming home with students in September. Parents can email Jill at jstrube(at)anwsu.org for more information.
Summer Opportunities
VUHS Summer Success Program
VUHS Summer Success!! July 5th – 30th 8:00 - 12:00 weekdays, Wednesdays 8:00 - 3:30 - Breakfast and lunch provided free of charge
A robust summer learning program is in the planning stages. VUHS will be contacting families and students to invite them to a challenging month of reading, math and adventure activities.
Many students lose learning ground over the summer. We are determined to help each student continue to grow and learn by working in small groups with teachers, using innovative software and computerized learning games, and strengthening basic skills in reading and math.
Invitations were mailed home in April, but it's not too late to sign-up. With the help of grant funding, we are hoping to extend our school year late bus transportation route into the month of July. We're also able to provide breakfast, snack and lunch for all students, free of charge. If you want to know more about VUHS Summer Success or want to sign-up your student, please contact Beth Adreon at badreon(at)anwsu.org.
Vergennes Swim Team
Vergennes Swim Team will hold one more registration time.

Please bring your health insurance information. You will be expected to pay your swim team fee ($65) and your pool pass fee.

Students should be prepared to be outdoors and physically active. Anyone interested should contact Lisa Newhard at 877-2938 X237 or Sarah Cook at 877-2938 X227.

Geared to honors level and motivated middle school students or students entering high school, Discrete Math Camp is designed to enrich student understanding and appreciation of math with thought provoking topics. While algebra and geometry are not prerequisites, the topics require a higher order of critical thinking and analysis. Topics will include, but not be limited to:
- Election Theory
- Fair Division
- Graphing Theories (Euler graphs, Hamilton circuits and the Travelling Salesman problems, bubble theory)
- Map Coloring
- Fractals
- Fibonacci numbers and the Golden Ratio

Based on student interests, we will adjust the subjects, and when the situation allows, will do more ‘hands-on’ experimentation in and outside of the school.

Summer at the Sheldon Museum
Stop in to see the wonderful works in wood featured in our summer-long exhibit, The Nature of Wood: Vermont Furniture and Woodware, 1790 to the Present. The exhibit features an interesting array of furniture and woodware from Addison County craftsmen from settler days to today. It will interest woodworkers and furniture lovers of all ages. Families can participate in a self-guided scavenger hunt, solve wood riddles and play with wooden puzzles, toys and games. The exhibit is a 2010 Vermont Crafts Council State of Craft Showcase event. Watch our website and the local papers for activities associated with this unique exhibit.
The Sheldon Museum invites you to celebrate the Fourth of July a little early this year with our annual VSO Pops Concert, “The Birds and the Bees,” and fireworks on Thursday, July 1st. Having combed the literature for music from aviary and apiary, the VSO offers a honey of a program (strictly G-rated)! From Jurassic Park’s pterodactyls to Tchaikovsky’s swans, the orchestra soars in a salute to wingers and stingers. Rimsky-Korsakov’s glorious Easter egg tale is paired with an unlikely bumblebee: VSO’s principal tubist! They even found a march that fits the bill, since America’s national emblem is the bald eagle. The 1812 Overture and fireworks take flight to conclude the concert. Join in the fun at the Sheldon’s biggest fundraiser of the year!
July continues to be a busy month with the annual Sheldon Museum History Cruises aboard the Carillon. Historian Tom Hughes, Crown Point Historic Site Director, will speak during the cruises about the history of the Crown Point area. We offer two 3 hour cruises with snacks and beverages for an early summer evening outing on lovely Lake Champlain.
At the end of July we will participate in our second video camp collaboration with Middlebury Community TV through the Middlebury Recreation Department summer programs for kids. The program, History Comes Alive, will run July 26th – 30th. Participants learn the art of script writing, costuming, acting and filming while using local history to develop an original production. This program is for ages 8-12 and space is limited. For more information call 388-3062.
For more information about any of our programs or tickets for Sheldon events, please visit our website at www.henrysheldonmuseum.org or call us at (802) 388-2117.
We look forward to seeing you this summer!
