Mr. Margolis' Math
We're reviewing linear equations in 7th grade. In 8th grade, we're covering one last new topic, systems of linear equations. It's been a pleasure to work with such a great group of students!
Mrs. White's Social Studies
Thank you to Erika Lynch who filled in for me for the last few weeks while I was on family leave. She is paraeducator on Team Farside and a certified social studies teacher. Her area of interest is Reconstruction of the South and worked perfectly as we had just finished the Civil War.
In preparation for our trip to the Battleship Massachusetts, we have been studying World War II. We have looked at some of the causes of the war, some of the key figures in the conflict and some of the changes of the roles of women that came out of the war.
Mrs. McEnerny's Language Arts
Students have been reading Grimm Fairy Tales. We've discovered that there's a difference between the "Disney-fied" versions and the real stories. Once we determined themes and patterns for the stories, we mapped out our ideas and wrote our own.
As summer grows closer we say goodbye to Team Odyssey and the middle school as we know it. Change is never easy, but it is often necessary and ultimately good. I wish all families a happy and safe summer.

Mrs. Muzzy's Science
The days are longer and the weather is warmer; two sure signs that summer vacation is around the corner! But what makes the days longer and the temperatures rise during the summer? We are researching the answers to these questions and many others as we end the year with an investigation - The Reasons for the Seasons. Students have learned about how the earth revolves around the sun, creating the seasons, and how it rotates on its axis, creating day and night. As a culmination of this unit, students are building a model that teaches others about the seasons. Through their models, students need to demonstrate their understanding of a solstice and equinox and how the position of the earth’s axis in relation to the sun creates the seasons. They will explain why earth is warmer during summer in the northern hemisphere when the earth is farthest from the sun, not during summer in the southern hemisphere when the earth is closest to the sun. Finally, we will enjoy the reason earth is warmest during northern summer when we soak up the sun on the rides as Six Flags and then hop into the pools to enjoy the water’s high specific heat!
Thank you Team Odyssey for a great year of science! I appreciate all your hard work and will miss you all next year! Good luck in high school and on Team Eight! For more information about Team Odyssey visit:
