Middle School Chorus
Middle School Chorus is open to all grade 7 and 8 students with or without prior singing experience. The group rehearses daily and performs several concerts each year. Students also have the opportunity to audition for the Green Mountain Music District Chorus.
Students learn music in several languages and styles, improve their vocal technique and learn about sight singing. Students are given weekly lessons to improve their knowledge of music notation.

Concert Choir
The Concert Choir is open to all students, grade 9-12, regardless of prior experience. The group performs three times a year on a variety of music in several languages. The choir participates in adjudicated performances annually, traveling every other year to visit other areas of the country. Students have the opportunity to audition for the Green Mountain Music District, VT All STate and New England Festival choruses.
Band/Choir
Band/ Choir is available for students who wish to participate in both Symphonic Band and Concert Choir. This class alternates the band and choir rehearsals. Students study a variety of band and chorus repertoire. They are introduced to the elements of good vocal and instrumental tone production, sight reading, music theory basics, and small ensemble music.
Performance is one of the most important factors of the VUHS Music Department, and students are required to attend all concerts and parades in order to pass the course. Students are expected to practice their music, so that they may be able to make a contribution to the excellence of the ensembles.
Grading is based on weekly practice logs, written work, performance tests, written tests, performance attendance (evenings and weekends), and class participation.
Commodore Singers
The Commodore Singers are a select high school choral ensemble. Auditions are held each spring for the following year. The group primarily performs a cappella music in a variety of styles and languages and from several historical periods.
