PROGRESS MONITORING AND PROGRAM and PROCESS EVALUATION

AT

VERGENNES UNION HIGH SCHOOL

(Prepared by:  Ed Webbley, Peter Reynolds, Tom O’Brien, and Carol Spencer)

Meetings, Discussions and Studies about further participation in NEASC

5.  What questions did parents raise when Mr. Webbley took the question of NEASC membership to one of his meetings with parents?

Ed Webbley:  Coffee with the Principal  October 30, 2008

(13 parents were present.  Sally and Rick Kerschner, Mo McLaughlin, Anne Cohn, Amanda Bodell, Adela Langrock, Kathy Alexander, Kara Griswold, Katie Quinn, Shirley Parfitt, Susan Duhn, Pat Sokolowski, Margo Grace)

Ed explained that the NEASC process was incomplete when he arrived here.  No work had been done.  He summarized some of the studies we have done.  We are trying to work towards using data with our students and our faculty and our community. What we are working towards is outcomes based accreditation.  What are our results?  (School Quality Standards are also input based.)  Test Scores need to come up or we will be put on probation.

Parents’ Questions:

Parent teacher night = a flyer

Information available in the program at the music programs

                        Something at the basketball game

The newspaper is not the best source, but not everyone reads.

Hit the elementary school boards and PTA’s, because the decision

                             will impact their kids.

The ANWSU board would be a good place.

It’s a good chance to put out our message about what we are

                             doing.

There should be a public review of the school’s data every year.

Long Term Concern

How embedded are the changes if Tom, Ed and Carol leave?

We’re trying to do everything on systems.  Systems stay when people leave.
