Meetings, Discussions and Studies about further participation in NEASC
One of the questions parents raised was about other Vermont high schools. Some information about this question is below in item # 6.
6. What do other Vermont high schools do about accreditation?
- In 2009-10, 41 Vermont public high schools are members of NEASC. (Original study 2007 )There are 16 Vermont public high schools that are not members of NEASC. Most are smaller schools than VUHS. A few are about our size (Fairhaven UHS; Lamoille UHS; Peoples’ Academy).
- In December, 2007, Cecile Gebo spoke with each of the non-member schools, and asked them: Do you evaluate yourselves in any other way, since you are not members of NEASC? The 17 non-member schools responded that they did not evaluate themselves.
- In February, 2008, Alyson Cota followed up with non-member schools, asking, Has any college ever called and asked about your accreditation? The answer from all 17 non-member schools was ‘no.’
- The Vermont Department of Education requires VUHS principals to make an annual report comparing VUHS school programs and resources to the state requirements found in the School Quality Standards. VUHS meets all of these requirements annually. Some of the responding colleges indicated that they include this information on their 1-2 page school overview prospectus that is sent along with college applications.
