2006 James Wakefield
The Vergennes Rowing team participated in there first event for the 2006-2007 season and what a start it was for the team. Braving high winds with gusts of up to 30 MPH the team of Kara Grimes at coxswain, Ashley Barnes at stroke oar, Elias Baldwin, Patrick McCarthy, Jarrett Clark, Daniel Avery and Justin Lalumiere took first place in the day’s first event, beating 12 other teams. The second team of Dale Eriksen, Mavis Stansbury, Ashley Eriksen, Ethan Baldwin, Marlena Delisle and Adam Bunde finished the same event in third place. Due to high winds the second race course was changed but this did not deter to Vergennes teams. Once again, showing their strength, the Vergennes first team starting almost 10 lengths behind the pack, challenged for the lead several times before coming to within one boat length of winning this event. They finished second overall for the day while the Vergennes second team finish fourth for the event and forth overall for the day. Congratulations to all for an excellent day of rowing
